Legal Framework Social Service Providers

CAST’s Comprehensive Training and Technical Assistance Team invites you to attend our in-depth training for Social Service Providers – a blended course of independent study and live, web-based training which uses a learning management system (LMS) to facilitate our modules on legal remedies, building legal partnerships and working within a multi-disciplinary team.

This first module is designed to build a foundation of knowledge around legal needs and remedies available to survivors of human trafficking and facilitate the application of core skills into existing social service practice. This module will be interactive and use practical skill-building techniques to reinforce what we learn so that participants can walk away feeling more confident and grounded in their practice.

In upcoming modules, participants will build on the knowledge and skills practiced in this module. This module will be a pre-requisite to attending future modules within this series.

Participants Will Learn:

Day 1:  Foundational knowledge of legal needs and remedies available to survivors of human trafficking as well as technical skills around issue-spotting legal needs during intakes.

Day 2:  How privilege and confidentiality affect their professional relationship as well as smart practices to use in order to maintain said privilege and confidentiality during client interactions.

Course Details

The interactive online course will be held over 2 days in a single week.  Online class time is estimated to be 3.0 hours per day, but may be subject to change.

In addition to participating in the live class, the course will require independent, self-paced pre-work. The pre-work is necessary for participation in the live sessions, as there will be core activities based on the content of the pre-work. Average time for pre-work per session is 90 minutes.

Optional post-work may be provided; participants are encouraged to engage with post-work to continue thinking critically about themes and topics introduced during live class time.

If needed, office hours and/or mini-sessions for skill practice can be offered through our LMS.

Next Round of Live class dates (all days start at 9:30 AM PST/12:30 PM EST)

  • Day 1: TBD - Early 2023
  • Day 2: TBD - Early 2023

Registration is required, there is no prerequisite course to take in order to be eligible for this module. However, registrants with prior completion of the previous (Social Services) E-learning courses titled “Overview of Legal Remedies for Trafficking Survivors” OR “Privilege and Confidentiality” will be given prioritization. Participants register for both days at once. Participation in Day 1 is a prerequisite for attending Day 2. Additional priority will be given to OVC/OVW grantees.
