Anti-Trafficking Lawyering Module 2: T Visas

CAST’s Training and Technical Assistance Team invites you to attend our Anti-Trafficking Lawyering Module 2: T Visas. This training is CAST’s most comprehensive course on how to apply for T visas from a trauma-informed perspective.  This training is designed to provide legal practitioners with practical skills to ensure they are prepared to represent immigrant survivors of human trafficking in the T visa process.

Legal practitioners will learn the following skills:

  • Apply and interpret each of the T visa eligibility requirements;
  • Navigate the T visa regulations and T visa Policy Manual;
  • Review cover letters and declarations to identify strengths/weaknesses in T visa filings (both initial and RFE); and
  • Integrate trauma-informed and victim-centered practices to T visa filing strategies such as what to consider when engaging with law enforcement and how to collect appropriate evidence for the T visa application.

Course Structure

This course totals approximately 14.75 hours using a mix of live sessions and self-paced work.

  • Approximately 1.75 hours of prework before each live session (approximately 5.25 hours)
  • Three 3-hour live sessions focused on practical tips for filing T visas (9 hours)
  • Approximately 1 hour of post-work

Live Training Dates

  • Dates: Tuesday, September 12, 19, and 26, 2023 (3 live sessions)
  • Time: 10 AM PT/1 PM ET – 1 PM PT/4 PM ET (3 hours each Tuesday)
  • Cost: FREE

Prerequisites

Only applicants who have fully completed Anti-Trafficking Lawyering Module 1 (previous Live version or Self-Paced version) will be allowed to register for this course. CAST will be verifying completion of Anti-Trafficking Lawyer Module 1 before authorizing enrollment into Module 2. This is a requirement even if you have enrolled in other CAST trainings. No exceptions.  

If you have registered for the Anti-Trafficking Lawyering Module 1 Self-Paced, completion of the course includes completion of all 7 units. Please do not apply for enrollment in this course until you have completed all 7 units of the self-paced course.  (If you lost your password to access Canvas, please email [email protected] to have your password reset. Additional Requirements

  • Commitment to complete pre- and post-work as well as attend the entire live training.
  • Must be a legal practitioner.
    • Due to limited space, priority will be given to licensed attorneys or DOJ-accredited representatives at OVC-funded organizations.
    • Paralegals, law students, non-licensed law graduates, and legal assistants will not be accepted at this time.
  • Technological requirements: Working microphone/camera for live sessions. CAST will also be utilizing Canvas to house all materials for this course.

MCLE/Certificate of Completion Information

This course has been approved for 14.75 hours of CA MCLE Credit. You may check your state for reciprocity of the MCLE unit hours. Certificates of Completion will also be available for DOJ Accredited Representatives.

In order to access the MCLE/Certificate of Completion, you will need to complete certain activities through the Canvas platform, including an evaluation. Once you have completed the evaluation, you will be able to download the MCLE or Certificate of Completion for your records.
